These are balance bikes and they don’t feature pedals or brakes. The first and foremost feature of these jumper bikes is that these are lightweight, stylish and available in attractive colors. The new jumper bikes are made of aluminum in place of wood that make them more durable and long running. Being light weight, even toddlers find riding it fun! These bikes have a special and unique steering limiter which prevents the incidents of sliding. This limiter is removable and ideal for small kids. Kids, who are adept at biking, need not use it. Seat pole is adjustable. Saddle is comfortable and bikes use a rear suspension. The wheel is also light in weight and made of alloy metal. These tires are trimmed and puncture protective.

The main point of concern for parents while purchasing a LikeaBike Jumper is that their kids won’t be able to graduate to other pedal bikes if they accustomed to a comparatively easy Jumper bike. It’s just an assumption of worried parents. Your kid can easily change over to a more complex bike in just one day. The Jumper bike experience gives your kid an idea of biking and develops his motoring skills. Some Jumper bikes are also available with brakes options, so that kids get used to the technique but in case, kids forget to use them, the bike balances itself.

Extra-big 200mm wheels and the new handbrake helps with learning the braking technique used on big kids' bikes. Handlebar and saddle are adjustable and the rubber knob is there to protect kids from injuries. Probably the most innovative runner bike ever. Children can keep pace with adults and they love the feeling of 'pedaling' down the street.

I don't know what makes this bike so likeable.  Is it the small wheels or the sturdy frame that makes it something that I would like to bring home and ride myself.  This is another example of an innovative design that makes a mark in the balance bike industry.

Child Obesity Ages 3 To 5 – How Bike Riding Can Reduce Weight Gain

Childhood obesity is shocking and becoming a rapid occurrence in the United States. The statistics for child Obesity between the ages of 3 and 5 years old is even more shocking. Take a look at this statistic. This is data from NHANES surveys that were taken between the years of 1976-1980 and 2003-2006. These statistics show that obesity for children between 2-5 has increased 5.0% to 12.4% since the study was first conducted in 1976.

Cause of Obesity

The causes of obesity comes from diet and lack of exercise. In terms of diet eating fatty foods like eating foods that are high in saturated fat. Fast food is one of the main factors that most kids gain so much weight from. Exercise or lack of it is another way that kids can gain so much weight. In our society today so many children stay inside and choose to play video games. Instead they should have at least an hour outside playing and releasing some of the tension gained from school and society issues.

Health Issues caused by obesity

Obese children are more at risk for health problems during their youth. Examples of health problems could include cardiovascular disease, this includes high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and type 2 diabetes. Having an obese child could also lead into the child's adult age. Some studies suggest that 80% of obese children were obese adults by the age of 25 years. The research also suggests that if the obesity occurs before the age of 8 years old, obesity in adulthood is likely more severe.

So what can parents do to eliminate obesity in our families.

1. Change your child's diet. Serve more green vegetables and less fatty foods. Don't eliminate fat foods all together. Children in the 1 to 5 age bracket need the fat in moderation.

2. Exercise, Exercise, Exercise... Children need this to keep their bodies healthy. Bike riding is a perfect exercise for children. It works all the major muscles groups and keeps the heart rate up to burn calories. Most parents don't think about a child between 3 and 5 riding a bike. But their is a way that your child can learn to ride in a very ingenious way. They can use a bike without peddles and chains called a balance bike. Balance bikes help children to learn the basics of balancing a bike not how to push a peddle then balance a bike. It is also safer than regular bikes for youngsters at this age.

Concentrating on these two elements can and will keep your child from becoming obese, thus releasing them of health problems and prolonging their lives.

Haro Balance Runner Bike

I have been hearing a lot about the Haro Balance Runner Bike this past year.  There is not a lot out their about the bike in terms of reviews but the bike comes from a very reliable company, the Haro Brand.  Haro specializes in mountain bikes and cruiser bikes.  Their mountain bikes are very tough and hold up to a lot of punishment.  Taking a look at the Baro Z10 balance runner bike it too is made with sturdy construction.  This bike is very lightweight and easy for children to maneuver.  The bike comes in either blue or pink.

Here are a few specs from the bike:

Time To Teach Your Child How To Ride A Bike

Do you remember when you first took to learning how to ride a bike?  I sure do, it was a painful experience.  First, I tried to put my feet up in the peddles after pushing off.  My legs always scraped the peddles leaving a scar.  Next, I tried to balance the bike.  At that time I had training wheels on my bike.  But it always seemed like the training wheels were not adjusted correctly.  The bike would rock to far to one side or the other.  Always making it seem like I would fall in any second.  It took me an entire year to learn after falling, scraping my legs and arms and sometimes getting my pants legs caught in the bike chain.  This was before they had bike chain guards.  What a miserable experience.

Well, times have changed.  In this day and age their are many more much easier ways to learn how to ride a bike.  All are less painful as technology has advanced.

What You Will Need..

1108-bike-training-01So, what is the first thing that you as a parent will need to do to teach your child how to ride a bike.  Well, that is easy you have to get a bike silly!!!  How is your child supposed to ride if he or she does not have a bike.  Now, I am going to recommend something different from the norm.  I am going to recommend that you try out a balance bike for your child.  If you read the intro and your are older than twenty five then you have had experience with learning to ride a bike with training wheels.  I am sure you may have experienced everything that I explained in the intro.  Balance bikes take away all of the problems that I talked about in the beginning.  There are no peddles, no chains, and your child's feet stay on the ground until they learn how to balance the bike.

Their are not many makers of balance bikes but they do come in many sizes and styles.  You will need to shop around and find a bike that will fit the size of your child and the stage they he or she is starting from.  If your child is young starting out at around 2 years old I would recommend that you take a look at a Wishbone Bike.  They carry bikes that look like tricycles but better.  They are also lower to the ground and they will grow with your child.

For older children just starting out at ages 3 to 5 yrs old you may want to start with a Strider PREbike™ Running Bike or a bike like the Prince Lionheart Balance Bike.  Also, be sure to purchase a helmet.

Where to Start?

Where to start your child depends on how confident your child is on a bike.  But as a rule I always want to start a child on a area that is closed off with little to no traffic.  This could be a park or a dead end street.  A driveway is also a great place to start a child off on.  If you have a small hill on your driveway a balance bike will be perfect.  I have a small hill on my driveway and I allowed my children to roll their bikes down it into out backyard grass.  They quickly learned to balance their bikes doing this repeatedly daily.

How To Teach Your Child?

Before I did anything in terms of teaching my child I first taught them how to stop their bikes.  If they got into any trouble I always told them to hit the brakes.  I also wanted them to go slowly down inclines and the brakes controlled their speed.  In the case of their balance bikes their brakes was their feet.  Next, the balance bike did the rest and their feet kept them upright.  Start them off slow to allow them to get their confidence.  As their confidence gets greater they will begin to take more and more chances and their balance will increase.  Stick at it and allow them to practice everyday.  Eventually, they will get the hang of it.

Stay the course and your son or daughter will be riding a bike in no time.

No Peddles Prince Lionheart Balance Bike Review

Well, this Christmas I broke down and purchased this Prince Lionheart Balance Bike.  It was to be a gift for my son.  He is three years old and he has wanted to have a bike ever since he was one.  You see he has a older brother and sister that ride bikes every summer and he always wants to follow behind them.  Trying to catch them on his tricycle.  But he never catches up to them.  He just cant get enough speed.

I was terrified to get him anything that had two wheels.  I think that he is just two young to have something that can tip over on a dime.  So, when I found out about balance bikes I knew I found something that he could use.  Especially, since it had no peddles to get in the way.  So, I started my research.  I read all the reviews and centered in to this bike.  It was not too expensive and would not hurt the environment once I decided to get rid of it.

You see first off that the Prince Lionheart bike is all wood.  That was very important to me.  Eventually, like all bike, they either end up in the junk yard or are left outside somewhere to rot.  Either way, his bike will not take away from the environment, but it will all to the environment.

Next, I wanted something that would be easy to put together.  You see I read reviews that said other balance bikes were difficult to put together and they eventually just returned the bike.  That

was not the case for this balance bike.  Actually, the bike only took 15 minutes to put together.  The majority of the bike came pre-assembled to my surprise.  I only had to install the wheels, the handle bars and the front stem.  On Christmas, I adjusted the seat to fit my son.

Finally, I wanted something that was tough.  Although, I have not tested this theory, summer has not come yet.  But I believe that I have found something that will last at least the two years before he turns 5 years old.  By then he should be able to move up to a bike with peddles and join his brother  and sister as they speed through the neighborhood.

All in all, I think I made the right decision to purchase this bike.  It is very functional and well made.  And my son seems to love it very much.
